Impacted Missouri Parks Open for Business

Every one of the roughly 80 campgrounds and RV parks that are affiliated with the Missouri Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds are open for business and ready to accommodate summer vacationers, despite the inclement weather that impacted the state several weeks ago, according to association officials.

“My park, Boiling Spring Campground in Dixon, was impacted by high water in late April and early May. But we hired extra staff to repair flood damage in the lower portion of the park adjacent to the Gasconade River, put new breakers in our electrical pedestals and cleaned up the park,” said Larry Helms, president of the Missouri Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds in a press release.

He added that his park was 95% full over Memorial Day weekend. “People couldn’t believe there was a flood here,” he said.

But business levels are below normal levels at some Missouri campgrounds, Helms said, because many people mistakenly assume that campgrounds are still affected by the recent storms.

“I don’t know of any parks that can’t fully accommodate people right now,” Helms said. “Some of our parks are even accommodating relief workers who have been involved in tornado related cleanup efforts.”
