The Minnesota Resort and Campground Association’s (MRCA) 2009 Fall Conference and Expo is slated for Oct. 19-21 at Lakeside Ballroom and Peters’ Sunset Beach Resort in Glenwood, according to the Alexandria (Minn.) Echo Press.
The conference features a keynote address by Mark Ludlow of Ludlow’s Island Resort, Cook, Minn., as well as 13 breakout sessions on issues that are crucial to the resort and campground industry.
In addition, the conference features resort and campground tours, an expo showcasing 30-plus vendors, crackerbarrels, the teeth-chattering Polar Plunge into Lake Minnewaska and MRCA’s annual meeting.
Bill Peters of Peters’ Sunset Beach Resort, Glenwood, will be inducted into the Minnesota Hospitality Hall of Fame and the association will announce the recipient of the 2009 Resorter of the Year award.
Five state legislators are also slated to receive “Friends of Minnesota Tourism” awards for their support of the industry during the last legislative session. Honorees will include Reps. Joe Atkins, DFL-Inver Grove Heights, Larry Howes, R-Walker, Marty Seifert, R-Marshall, John Ward, DFL-Brainerd, and Sen. Dan Skogen, DFL-Hewitt.
The seminar series will cover a broad range of topics including shoreland management, managing your online reputation, financing renovations/purchases/new builds, buying for gift shops, social media, housekeeping, working with planning and zoning administrators and more.
John Edman, director of Explore Minnesota Tourism, will lead an interactive discussion on the future of resorts in reference to changing consumer travel habits.
