Nathan Whitaker, co-author of motivational books with sports figures such as Tony Dungy, will be the guest speaker at the RVI Leadership Prayer Breakfast during the National RV Trade Show in Louisville this year.
“While our business dealings keep us busy during that week, we enjoy holding this event to help us center on our faith and the things that transcend day-to-day tasks,” said Carl Pletcher, chairman of the RVI Leadership Committee. “Our past attendees and friends tell us they really like to have this kind of positive jump-start to their busy day at the show.”
Whitaker played two sports at Duke University before earning a law degree at Harvard and taking positions with a federal judge, a large church, a law firm and doing administrative work for the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He then went on to write books with sports broadcaster James Brown, Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow and famed coach Tony Dungy.
It is the topic of servant leadership highlighted in “The Mentor Leader,” Whitaker’s latest book with Dungy, that he will bring to the Prayer Breakfast.
“Servant leadership is a very appropriate subject for the week of the RV show. There seems to be a sense of urgency for results at any cost in the business world these days, but a mentor leader knows that results come from building up your team rather than applying pressure,” Pletcher explained. “Nathan is going to help us learn how to apply servant leadership principles to our businesses and lives, and we can actually go across the street to the exposition hall right afterward and start applying them.”
The breakfast will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, formerly the Executive West, on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 7-8:30 a.m. Tickets can be reserved by the RSVP date of Nov. 26 for $17 per person or $160 for a table of 10. All trade show attendees are welcome to attend. Sponsors are also still being sought to help support the event.
“We’re so grateful for all the past support we’ve received. We wouldn’t be able to hold the Prayer Breakfast without it, because it’s not a self-supporting event,” Pletcher said. “Due to rising costs, we’re looking for more help in providing the good work we hope is being accomplished. We rely on the kindness of our sponsors to make it happen.”
Gold level sponsors give $500 or more, Silver level between $200 and $499, and Bronze level from $100 to $199. All contributions are used for the Prayer Breakfast and all sponsors of $100 or more will have their name and company listed in the program.
