La Grande, Ore.-based Outdoors RV Manufacturing (ORV) announced expansion plans and a key personnel move, according to a press release.
In April, Outdoors RV opened a brand new state-of-the-art lamination facility and, as of just this past month, has broken ground on a 50,000-square-foot expansion that will be built just south of the existing manufacturing plant. The new plant will be producing Outdoors RV’s all new mid-profile Glacier Peak fifth-wheel along with other travel trailer brands.
Outdoors announced the addition of industry veteran Mick Pickler as director of manufacturing. Pickler will oversee all three production facilities at the manufacturing complex in La Grande. Pickler has been in the RV business for 40 years, the last 15 years as the production manager in charge of the Arctic Fox Truck Camper assembly line at sister company Northwood Manufacturing.
Pickler stated, “The Outdoors RV production team is dedicated to providing our dealers and customers the best quality and functional RV available in the industry. It is a real pleasure to be a part of the Outdoors RV Team.”
Ward King, COO for Outdoors RV, added, “I am very pleased to have Mick Pickler join the Outdoors RV Team. Mick brings tremendous experience and an incredible eye and for what a highly functional, quality RV can and should be.”
ORV Sales Manager Darin Nelson noted, “A key to Outdoors RV’s growth is due in large part to its dedicated dealer partners and the customers that are seeking out a better-built, better-insulated, better-featured RV. A main component in achieving this goal is the people that are behind the scenes and on the assembly line, hand-crafting the Outdoors RV products. The management team at Outdoors RV has over 250 years of combined RV experience.”
Northwood Investments, which operates RV builders Outdoors RV Manufacturing and Northwood Manufacturing, announced that construction of a new plant is under way in La Grande, Ore.
Ward King, COO for Outdoors RV and Northwood Manufacturing, said the expansion is a result of increased business. “Our business is picking up,” he said. “We continue to have more interest in outdoor products.”
The facility expansion will also bring new jobs to the county. “Probably a minimum of 25 jobs, but more likely all the way up to 75,” King said, noting the operations currently employ 194 hourly employees and about 30 office employees.
The expansion coincides with the introduction of a new fifth-wheel line and new database for dealers. “We’re kind of increasing our footprint in the southern market,” King said. “That includes California all the way to Colorado.”
The 50,000-square foot expansion features manufacturing space and offices at the Outdoors RV location south of the existing main plant.
“Our projection is somewhere in June we should be operational, barring any unforeseen weather,” King said.
Outdoors RV Manufacturing has partnered with Alberta-based High River Autoplex & RV to represent the BlackStone travel trailer line, according to a news release.

Jim Croxton, general manager for La Grand, Ore.-based Outdoors RV, noted, “It is always a pleasure to partner with such a professional dealership that can hit the ground running and begin retailing high end units as quickly as they were setup with the product line. We continue to see tremendous growth with the Black Stone brand. We have sold out every production run and retailed over 60% of the units that have been shipped from our production facility since we started building 10 months ago.”

The Back Country product line is one of five brands that Outdoors RV produces along with Creek Side, Timber Ridge, Wind River and Black Stone.
“The focus of Outdoors RV is to design RVs for the four-seasons climate and rugged terrain of the Northwest, mountain states and Western Canada,” said Jim Croxton, general manager of Outdoors RV Manufacturing. “Our goal is not to be the largest manufacturer in the country, nor to follow market share graphs. We simply want to design and build great RVs for our dealers and their customers.”
John Ramsey, owner of Broadmoor RV, noted, “Our goal is to provide RVers with a vehicle to create wondrous memories that they and their children will pass along to their children. We have been in business for almost two decades providing our customers with a wonderful RV journey from time of purchase to trading in for another one down the road.”
Earlier this year, Broadmoor RV was honored as the No. 1 retailing dealer for Outdoors RV for the past 12 months.

“Jeff has been retailing products since he started and continues to increase volume at his dealership. We are excited with his success and look forward to a bright future as we partner together with Lethbridge Motors and RV.”
Outdoors RV Manufacturing Inc. recently announced that Broadmoor RV in Pasco, Wash., was named the No. 1 dealer in the state over the past year for the La Grange, Ore-based builder’s Creek Side, Wind River and Timber Ridge towable brands.
“Broadmoor RV has been in operation for almost two decades and they provide the Outdoors RV customers with a wonderful RV journey from time of purchase to trading in for another one down the road,” said Jim Croxton, Outdoors RV general manager.
He noted that the company’s towable lines are built to endure the rugged Northwest climate and accommodate four-seasons camping with features like thermal insulated cooler-sized luggage doors and Beaufloor Outdoors Tough Flooring with a 50-below zero cold cracking warranty.
“Outdoors RV Manufacturing is extremely proud to partner with great long-term dealers like Broadmoor RV in helping to merchandise our products,” added Croxton.
La Grande, Ore.-based Outdoors RV Manufacturing announced today (June 17) that Rancho RV is the newest dealer partner to sign on to carry the manufacturer’s brands in California.
“The latest dealer addition of Rancho RV to our dealer network allows us to enter one of the strongest markets in central California,” Jim Croxton, general manager of Outdoors RV, said in a press release.
James Foreman, owner of Livermore RV and Rancho RV, stated, “Outdoors RV has been a major component in our growth within the new travel trailer market for Livermore and now in Rancho RV. It has been a pleasure working with Outdoors RV. Their products fit our customer needs and they have always backed their products.”
Both locations are carrying all of the Outdoors RV brands, including Back Country, Creek Side, Timber Ridge and Wind River.
Outdoors RV started expanding in the Northwest and Canada at the end of 2010 and with the introduction of new models for 2012, the company began to expand further south, according to Croxton.
“We are excited to have this strong partner join our dealer network as we continue to expand and grow in the central California market, which is historically one of the strongest recreational vehicle markets in the west,” he said.
Outdoors RV said that the next focus will be further south, growing business in the Southern California market. Croxton noted that the company will continue to “follow our marketing strategy of allowing each dealer large trade areas and then providing exceptional sales training and support as well as providing current products across several price points that meet what today’s customers are looking for at all levels in towable products.”
Outdoors RV Manufacturing Inc.’s business has continued to grow beyond its best estimates since its startup in June 2009, even in what has now developed in to be a very challenging RV market, according to a news release.
“The key for us and our dealers has been the exceptional retail turn we have been able to achieve within our first year with our varied brand offerings across the mid and entry travel trailer markets,” said Jim Croxton, general manager for the La Grande, Ore.-based manufacturer. “Our marketing strategy has proven to be very successful for our dealers and our operations by allowing each dealer large trade areas and then providing exceptional sales training and support as well as our commitment not to develop sister (copycat) products that would deplete the value of our brands within their trade areas.
“We originally concentrated our product offerings with four distinct brands, (WindRiver, Timber Ridge, CreekSide, Tamarack Trail), and now we have recently introduced another brand Outdoors RV, Back Country, as a new entry-level product that our dealers had requested.”
Outdoors RV has continued to exceed is business growth plan by staying close with its dealers, listening to their needs and responding quickly to many of their requests enabling the company to provide them with products that meet the current customer’s requirements and providing dealers with great turning products at their dealership, Croxton said.
“Our tremendous growth encompassed with exposure through the Internet on our website (www.outdoorsrvmfg.com) has resulted in generating a tremendous amount of interest by customers outside our current basic trade areas in the Northwest and Western Canada. Our plans have always been to control our growth throughout the first year to insure that we could serve our dealers needs before we expanded to other trade areas outside the Northwest and Western Canada,” Croxton continued.
“We now believe we are ready, willing and able to begin our second stage of growth by expanding our dealer network and are currently researching for partnering dealers further south and east into areas of California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming and Montana. We have added industry veteran Troy Johnson to our sales team in anticipation of this growth and to maintain industry leading support to our current dealer partners.
“Our future success will continue to be based on partnering with dealers allowing for large trade areas, listening and responding quickly to dealers needs, providing innovative well featured products and great service to our customers and dealers throughout the territories that we serve.”
