Protective, endorsed extended service agreement provider for the Recreation Vehicle Dealer Association (RVDA), has launched a 12-month/12,000 mile new XtraRide service contract term so dealers can include a service agreement for new units without a factory warranty, RVDA reported in its current issue of RV Executive Today.
The dealer cost is $310 for new motorhomes, towables and park models. The price is $160 for new truck campers and folding camping trailers. The start date for coverage is the in-service date. The program includes a $100 deductible.
The new “12/12” product allows dealers to sell customers a five-, six-, or seven-year term service agreement to protect their unit into the future. The deductible is waived if the repairs are performed by the selling dealership.
“Protective listened to dealers and designed this program to provide some protection for customers purchasing new vehicles where the underlying factory warranty is not in force,” says Protective’s Bill Koster.

Nominated dealers are invited to submit applications by mid-July to BJ Thompson Associates, a northern Indiana agency that oversees an independent review of those applications by a panel of industry “experts,” none of whom are directly associated with RV Business or its parent company, Affinity Group Inc. Multi-store operations are again limited to one award, regardless of how many outlets they have, and the Top 50 dealers will not be ranked, although ten Blue Ribbon retailers will be named and one individual will be singled out for the Dave Altman Award, the equivalent of RVB’s “Lifetime Achievement Award.”

Protective has enhanced its XtraRide RV service agreement program to provide mechanical breakdown coverage for an RV dealer’s rental fleet, according to a news release.
“We’ve always had the capability to cover rental vehicles on an individual basis with a business use surcharge,” said Bill Koster, Protective vice president. “However, we are now able to cover an entire new vehicle fleet with specific rates and no surcharge.”
The business-use surcharge and used-vehicle coverage are still available, but XtraRide’s rental program is a convenient and less expensive way for a dealer to protect the entire new vehicle fleet. XtraRide is exclusively endorsed by the Recreation Vehicle Dealers Association (RVDA).
“The real value here for the rental dealer is the ancillary benefits provided by Protective’s XtraRide service agreement,” Koster said. Customers can call for roadside assistance, concierge benefits, technical support and dealer locator services after the rental dealer’s business hours.

The Recreation Vehicle Dealers Association (RVDA) Education Foundation board of directors elected Dan Pearson of PleasureLand RV Centers Inc. in St. Cloud, Minn., as vice chairman at their meeting on Nov. 30 in Louisville, Ky., according to a news release.
Pearson has a long record of service to RV dealers. He is a participating past chairman of RVDA, serves on the RV Assistance Corp. board of directors and is active in the Minnesota RV Dealers Association. He is also a major financial contributor to the Foundation’s RV Learning Center. Pearson succeeds Jim Sheldon of Monaco RV LLC, who will remain on the board.
“Since the formation of the RVDA Education Foundation in the early 1990s, Dan Pearson has been instrumental in the development of continuing education programs for dealership personnel,” said RVDA Education Foundation Chairman Rick Horsey of Parkview RV Center in Smyrna, Del. “Dan is one of the best minds in RV retailing today, and we are fortunate to have him serve as vice chairman while the foundation develops programs that meet the challenges the RV industry faces today and in the future.”
The board also re-elected Horsey as chairman and Bill Koster of Protective, as secretary/treasurer.
The RVDA board elected Jeff Pastore of Hartville RV Center, in Hartville, Ohio, as a director at its meeting in Louisville on Nov. 30.
