Finishing fourth in Reader’s Digest’s “We Hear You America Sweepstakes’ helped put Albion, Mich., on the map.

Now, Reader’s Digest is making Albion a stop on its 100-city RV tour, the Jackson Citizen Patriot reported.

“With the times like they are, we can use all the recognition we can get,” Albion Mayor Joe Domingo said. “I hope it brings people our way. They can come and look at our red brick road and see what we have to offer.”

Reader’s Digest is donating money to municipalities based on the number of times people voted by clicking on a cheer icon online. Albion, a city of around 9,000 located 100 miles west of Detroit, received 642,616 “cheers” and won $10,000.

“It’s a nice sum of money,” City Manager Mike Herman said. “It’s a pretty good deal.”

The RV, hosted by supermodel and Celebrity Apprentice Niki Taylor, is expected to arrive in Abion at 10 a.m. April 25. Domingo hopes to assemble a large crowd downtown to greet it.

“We would like to have them give us the check and shoot a photo with everybody behind it,” Domingo said.

The RV has a video kiosk so people can give testimonials about the city that are uploaded to the web about what they see and hear. Albion will also be featured in the May issue of the magazine.

Domingo said he would like the Albion City Council to decide how to spend the prize money. Possibilities include using it to reopen the Bohm Theatre, help build a community center and renovate the city’s riverwalk.
