Horsey Family Ups Learning Center Donations

LearningCenterLogo2009®_final_colorThe Horsey Family Memorial Fund increased its donation to the RVDA Education Foundation’s RV Learning Center by $5,000, making their total contribution $66,000, according to a release from the Recreation Vehicle Dealers Association (RVDA).

The Horsey family owns Parkview RV Center, in Smyrna, Del. Rick Horsey chairs the RV Learning Center board of directors and is a past chairman of RVDA.

“The past two years have been tough on many organizations and the RV Learning Center is no exception,” Horsey said. “As the industry recovers from the recession, timely and affordable education programs will be crucial in meeting the future needs of customers and employees. The financial challenge is not any one person or organization’s responsibility and can only be met with industry cooperation. I invite all those who believe in the future of the RV industry to join me in contributing to the RV Learning Center. Your contribution will help assure the RV Learning Center continues to be the training and education resource for the RV industry. ”

The RV Learning Center is dedicated to providing dealers and their employees with innovative ways to operate RV dealerships through an array of education resources including publications, distance learning, workshops, online products, training, and certification programs for RV dealership personnel. Participation in RV industry certification programs was a key recommendation of the Go RVing Coalition’s Committee on Excellence Task Force reports, which studied consumer satisfaction.

Parkview Co-Founder Lucille Horsey Passes

Lucille Horsey, mother of Recreation Vehicle Dealers Assocation (RVDA) Education Foundation Chairman Rick Horsey, passed away Friday (May 7), according to RVDA Update.

Lucille Horsey was the secretary and teasurer for 38 years of Parkview RV Center in Smyrna, Del., which she co-founded with her late husband, Robert Horsey. The dealership currently is led by Rick Horsey.

She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Smyrna, where she was an active member of the Harvey’s Group and she was also a member of Delaney Methodist Church near Clayton, Del.

According RVDA, she loved her roses and enjoyed her bird feeders and watching birds. She spent a lot of time traveling with her husband, enjoying 17 cruises and countless camping trips together. She also enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren

In addition to her husband, Lucille Horsey was preceded in death by two sons, Robert G. Horsey and Randy Horsey. She was the the last of 13 brothers and sisters.

Lucille Horsey is survived by her daughter, Brenda Wright and her husband, Gordon, of Smyrna; her son, Rick and his wife, Sharon, of Dover, Del.; two grandsons, Jonathan Vendrick of Philadelphia, Pa., and Ryan Horsey of Smyrna; four granddaughters, Amy West of Middletown, Del., Leah Schwartz of West Chester, Pa., Jenny Strayer of Smyrna and Randell Horsey of Dover; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, 20-24 W. Mt. Vernon Street, Smyrna. Freinds may call at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, POB 330, Smyrna, Del.  19977.

RVDA Honors Horsey, Ferkey with Service Award

Larry Troutt, chairman of the Recreation Vehicle Dealers Association (RVDA),  honored Mike Ferkey and Rick Horsey on Thursday (Oct. 8) for their service to RV dealers with RVDA Chairman’s Service Awards. The presentation came during RVDA’s annual meeting in Las Vegas.

The award recognizes people who have made a significant contribution to RVDA over an extended period of time.

Receiving the 2009 Chairman’s Service Awards are:

  • Mick Ferkey, Greeneway, Inc., Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. Ferkey serves on the RVDA board of directors and was a long-time Wisconsin delegate. For the past two years, he has chaired the RVDA Marketing Task Force that works to make RVDA and RV Learning Center programs more affordable for dealers and their employees. “Mick showed his dedication to and belief in the RV dealer’s convention by donating $5,000 to create scholarships for people to attend this year’s convention,” said Troutt. “He is not only active on the national level, but also in his home state when legislative matters that impact RV dealers surface in the state legislature.”
  • Rick Horsey, Parkview RV Center, Smyrna, Del.  Horsey has a record of accomplishment with RVDA that only a few others can match. After serving as chairman of the RVDA board of directors, he took on the challenge of being chairman of the RVDA Education Foundation in 1999. “During his tenure, Rick and the Foundation Board provided the leadership for an unprecedented fundraising effort that led to the rebranding of the foundation into the RV Learning Center – and began a systematic review of education programs for RV dealership employees,” Troutt said. Rick has also worked on his own continuing education in business management and strategic planning.”

Patton Donates $10,000 to RV Learning Center

Byerly RV Center imageRuss Patton of Byerly RV in Eureka, Mo., has donated an additional $10,000 to the Recreation Vehicle Dealers Association (RVDA) Education Foundation’s RV Learning Center, bringing his total contribution to more than $15,000, according to a news release.

“The RV Learning Center is providing quality assistance during tough times,” said Patton. “In the 1980s, this information was not available and dealers were on their own to find information. Now, a visit to the RV Learning Center website shows how we have matured and how much support dealers have when we act as a group. This is a good time for dealers to assess our operations, and I am pleased to make an investment in the continued success of the RV industry and RV retailers.”

“Russ Patton has a track record of supporting professional development and education at his dealership and within the industry,” said Rick Horsey of Parkview RV Center in Smyrna, Del., and Education Foundation chairman. “We appreciate his financial support and his employees’ participation in RV Learning Center programs.”

RVDA of Canada Increases Pledge

The Recreation Vehicle Dealers of Association (RVDA) of Canada has pledged an additional $50,000 (Canadian) RVDA presentationto the RVDA  Education Foundation’s RV Learning Center. RVDA of Canada Past  President Kevin Betzold, at right in photo, presented the first installment for  $25,000  to RVDA Education Chairman Rick Horsey, center, and RVDA  Chairman Larry Troutt, left, during the recent RVDA board of directors  meeting.  This new pledge will bring RVDA of Canada’s total contribution to  the RV Learning Center to $100,000. “We are happy to be able to pledge additional funds to the RV Learning  Center,” said Betzold. “Having  educated and professional dealers is a common goal, and the RV Learning  Center is there for dealers on both sides of the border to provide education  and certification programs.” Horsey, of Parkview RV Center, Smyrna, Del., added, “RVDA of Canada has been an essential partner for the RV Learning Center since it was formed. We greatly appreciate the Canadian dealers’ continued support during the critical time for our industry.”
