The Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) continues to seek qualified certified and master certified technicians to serve on the newly formed Education Review Subcommittees (ERS).
Overseen by the Industry Education Committee, the technicians will work with industry subject matter experts and educators to review and evaluate current educational materials and help develop new offerings in all areas of service technician training, according to an RVIA news release.
There are 13 ERS groups that focus on the content that constitutes the two core knowledge classes (Trainee and Registered Technician) and five specialty areas (Body, Chassis, Electrical Systems, Appliances, and Plumbing) of the RV Service Technician Career Path.
Currently, ERS participants are working to update the RV Service Technician (RVST) Standard by examining their current specialty area and prioritizing the tasks within those areas by level of importance. Next, questions relating to these tasks will be developed to serve as the basis of the certification testing for core knowledge classes and the specialty areas.
“There has been impressive progress made in a short period of time by the various ERS groups,” said RVIA Vice President of Standards and Education Bruce Hopkins. “There is a lot of important work that remains and we are encouraging any certified technician with an interest to participate.”
The work of the ERS groups takes place primarily through online collaboration and telephone conference calls, giving certified technicians from any location an opportunity to participate. There will also be occasional voluntary onsite events that will give subcommittee members the opportunity to meet and work more directly with one another. ERS participants will review and comment on training objectives, textbooks, certification test questions, curriculum content and program structure.
Participation is on a voluntary basis, according to Hopkins, and will be structured to respect the time constraints and job obligations of the committee members. More information can be found by visiting ERS.RVST.ORG and completing the application form.
