SSI: Canadian Towable Sales Off 7% in January

Year-over-year Canadian towable retail sales decreased 7% in January, according to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc.

Results by segment showed:

• Sales in the travel trailer sector dipped 5.3% in January.

• Fifth-wheel sales decreased 9.2% for the month.

• Folding camping trailer registrations declined 6.7% in January.

• January sales of recreational park trailers, which totaled two units, were down 60%.

Thor Industries Inc. was the overall Canadian towables sales leader in January with a 34.4% market share, followed by Forest River Inc. (33.3%) and Jayco Inc. (13.9%).

Thor was also the leader in travel trailer sales for the month holding a 32% market share, edging Forest River (30.7%), while Jayco was No. 3 with a 16.3% share.

Thor was the leader in the Canadian fifth-wheel sector in January, capturing a 44.5% market share, with Forest River at No. 2 posting a 36.1% share followed by Jayco at 6.7%. In the park model sector, Thor and Woodland Park each sold one unit in January.

Forest River led Canadian folding camping trailer sales for the month with a 71.4% market share while Jayco posted a 21.4% share and Chalet RV Manufacturing held a 7.1% share.

SSI: Jan. Canadian Coach Sales Increase 47.2%

Led by strong performance in the Class A sector, year-over-year Canadian motorhome sales climbed 47.2% in January.

According to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc., Thor Industries Inc. was the Canadian motorhome sales leader for the month, capturing a 2o.8% market share, followed by Forest River Inc. (18.9%) and Winnebago Industries Inc. (17%).

January Class A registrations soared 76.2% from a year ago. Thor was No. 1 in the category with an 18.9% market share, ahead of Forest River Inc. and Winnebago, which tied for No. 2 with a 16.2% share. Fleetwood RV Inc. and Newmar Corp. both posted a 13.5% share to share the No.3 position.

In the Class C segment, January sales rose 6.7% from a year ago. Forest River and Thor tied for the top spot with a 25% market share followed by Jayco Inc. and Winnebago, both garnering an 18.8% share.

SSI: Towable Sales Edge Down 1.6% in January

Year-over-year retail towable registrations edged down 1.6% in January, perhaps reflecting the severe winter weather that has affected retail shows and manufacturers’ production schedules.

According to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc., results showed:

• Sales for the high-volume travel trailer sector grew 4.1% in January.

• Fifth-wheel registrations declined 12.5% for the month.

• Folding camping trailer sales were down 16.1% in January.

• Recreational park trailer sales were up 2.1% for the month.

Thor Industries Inc. was the towable sales leader for the month with a 33.6% market share, edging out Forest River Inc. (33.3%). Jayco Inc. was No. 3 with a 9.8% share.

By segment, Forest River was No. 1 in January travel trailer sales with a 34% share, ahead of Thor (29%) and Jayco (12%). Thor held a commanding lead in fifth-wheel sales, capturing a 49.7% market share, followed by Forest River with a 29.1% share. Grand Design RV Co. and Jayco were tied for the third spot, capturing a 4.8% share.

Forest River was the folding camping trailer sales leader for the month with a 66.9% market share while Columbia Northwest/Aliner Inc. (13%) held the No. 2 position followed by Jayco (9.6%). In the park model segment, Champion/Athens Park Homes was No. 1, posting a 14.3% market share. Kropf Manufacturing Co. Inc. and Skyline Corp. tied for No. 2 with a 12.2% share followed by Chariot Eagle Inc. (9.2%).

SSI: January Class B Sales Show 21.4% Growth

Year-over-year Class B motorhome sales climbed 21.4% in January, according to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc.

For the month, Roadtrek Motorhomes Inc. was No. 1 in Class B sales, owning a 37.6% market share, followed by Thor Industries Inc. (32%), Winnebago Industries Inc. (16%) and Pleasure-Way Industries Ltd. (9.6%).

SSI: C’s Push Coach Sales up 8.6% for January

Year-over-year motorhome registrations grew 8.6% in January, according to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI).

Thor Industries Inc. held the No. 1 spot for the month with a 28.5% market share followed by Forest River Inc. (22.3%) and Winnebago Industries Inc. (18.5%).

In the Class A category, January sales dipped 3.1% compared with the previous year. Thor led the sector, posting a 23.3% market share, followed by  Winnebago (20.6%), Forest River (16.3%) and Tiffin Motorhomes Inc. (14.6%).

Class C sales jumped 29.1% for January as Thor led the category with a 35.3% market share. Forest River (30.1%) was No. 2, followed by Winnebago (15.8%) and Jayco Inc. (10.7%).

SSI: ’13 Canadian Towable Sales Flat, Gain 3.2%

Year-over-year Canadian towable retail sales declined for the third straight month, down 27.9% in December, while registrations for the full year finished up 3.2%. According to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc., results by segment showed:

• Sales in the travel trailer sector plunged 20.6% in December but gained 7% for the 12 months.

• Fifth-wheel sales declined 38.5% for the month and 4.3% for 2013.

• Folding camping trailer registrations dropped 46.7% in December and 8.3% for the 12 months.

• Sales of recreational park trailers retreated 50% for the month and 17.5% for the full year.

Thor Industries Inc. was the overall Canadian towables sales leader for 2013 with a 35.7% market share, followed by Forest River Inc. (31.6%) and Jayco Inc. (15.5%).

SSI: Canadian Motorhome Sales up 11.5% in ’13

Year-over-year Canadian motorhome sales fell 22% in December while registrations grew 11.5% for the full year, according to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI).

Forest River Inc. was the Canadian motorhome sales leader for 2013, capturing a 36.5% market share, followed by Thor Industries Inc. (21.8%) and Winnebago Industries Inc. (13%.1).

SSI reported that Class A registrations were up 7.7% in December from a year ago and 2.8% for the 12 months while the Class C segment showed a 54.2% drop – a result of low volume for the past two months – but remained up 20.2% for the year.

SSI: Towables Rise 8.5% in Dec.; 15.7% for 2013

With all categories except folding camping trailers showing year-over-year growth in December, towable sales posted an 8.5% increase for the month and a 15.7% gain for the full year.

According to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc., Thor Industries Inc. stood as the towable sales leader for 2013 with a 35.9% market share, edging out Forest River Inc. (34.8%). Jayco Inc. earned the No. 3 spot with an 11.4% share. As previously reported, Forest River was No. 1 in motorhome sales for the year, garnering a 25.1% market share.

Category results showed:

• Sales for the high-volume travel trailer sector grew 6.6% in December and 16.9% for the 12 months.

• Fifth-wheel registrations rose 14.9% for the month and 16.4% for the full year.

• Folding camping trailer sales were down 12.8% in December and 0.3% year-to-date.

• Recreational park trailer sales gained 5.3% for the month but fell 8.8% for 2013.

Winnebago Earns SSI Top-Selling Brand for ’13

Winnebago Industries Inc. has been recognized by Statistical Surveys Inc., a retail reporting service in Grand Rapids, Mich., for having the top-selling motorhome brand for calendar 2013.

SSI: Canadian Trailer Sales Drop 15.5% For Nov.

Year-over-year Canadian towable retail sales declined  for the second straight month, down 15.5% in November, while registrations for the first 11 months were up 3.5%. According to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc., results by segment showed:

• Sales in the travel trailer sector plunged 14.8% in November but gained 7.2% for the 11 months.

• Fifth-wheel sales decreased 13.8% for the month and 3.9% year-to-date.

• Folding camping trailer registrations declined 20% in November and 9.7% for the 11 months.

• Sales of recreational park trailers retreated 48.4% for the month and 16.7% year-to-date.

Thor Industries Inc. was the overall Canadian towables sales leader through November with a 35.7% market share, followed by Forest River Inc. (16.2%) and Jayco Inc. (15.5%). The Forest River Group, which includes the company’s towable building divisions in a “consolidated” report by Statistical Surveys, earned a 32.9% share year-to-date.

Thor was also the leader in travel trailer sales year-to-date holding a 33.9% market share while Jayco was No. 2 with a 17.3% share while Forest River held a 15.1% share.

Thor held a commanding lead in the Canadian fifth-wheel sector through November, capturing a 49.3% market share, with Forest River at No. 2 posting a 16.8% share followed by Forest River’s Palomino RV division at 9.3%. Thor was also No. 1 in park model sales with a 45.8% market share while General Coach was No. 2 (21.2%) and Forest River third (18.6%).

Forest River led Canadian folding camping trailer sales for the 11 months with a 31.3% market share while Jayco posted a 31% share and Forest River’s Coachmen RV division held a 21.4% share.
