Park Model OEM Joins Tornado Relief Effort

Stone Canyon Lodges and Park Models LLC, a recreational park trailer manufacturer based in Haleyville, Ala., is providing two 12-foot-by-24-foot cabins to house victims from the April 27 tornadoes that devastated the state.

Suppliers donated most of the materials for the units, and Stone Canyon employees are donating their time to build the units.

The park models will be going to storm victims in the northwest Alabama towns of Hackleburg and Phil Campbell. The one family reportedly lost everything they owned in the storm, reported Phyllis Watts, Stone Canyon Lodges president.

Both towns are located a few miles from the Stone Canyon plant and lost more than 40 residents in the storm.

“We know the first unit is going to a young couple with a 6-month-old baby. They lost everything they had and didn’t have insurance, Watts said.

Work on the unit began May 14 and it will be delivered on Saturday, she said.

The recipient of the second unit has yet to be selected.

The finished units would sell for upward of $22,000 each if sold at retail.

Relief agencies picked a small family for the Stone Canyon project because of the size of the cabins. The units will be equipped with a porch, stackable washer and dryer, a fireplace and air conditioning.

Workers are building the donated units after hours and on weekends.

Stone Canyon Lodges was without electricity for three days but suffered no physical damage from the storm. “We were very blessed,” she said.

Stone Canyon dismissed its employees around 10:30 in the morning on April 27; a few hours later, the F5 tornado struck northwest Alabama. The storms killed more than 350 in the state.

Legacy Orders 67 Stone Canyon Park Models

April 12, 2010 by · Comments Off on Legacy Orders 67 Stone Canyon Park Models

Larry Smith, owner of Stone Canyon Lodges in Haleyville, Ala., confirmed today (April 12) that Stone Canyon has received an order for 67 park model cabins from Legacy RV Resorts. While not releasing the exact dollar amount, he did say the value of the order was “in the ballpark of $2 million..

In a news release, Smith stated that he was already forecasting a busier year than 2009 and this order will certainly improve that outlook. “Many of our past customers are ordering cabins for 2010 and we are also seeing many new customers as they learn about the quality and value we offer.”

Bruce Bryant of Legacy RV Resorts says the cabins will be going to various properties in the Legacy RV system. Bryant says that after purchasing park model cabins from a number of manufacturers over the years he has been most pleased with the Stone Canyon product and their willingness to build models to meet his specific needs.

Bryant is bullish on the 2010 camping season and stated that reservations are up in most parts of the country.
