Drive Smart Publications has published what it says is the first-ever guide to towing a fifth-wheel RV.
“Tow Your Fifth Wheel Trailer Like a Pro” by professional bus driver and RVer Lorrin Walsh covers the basics of fifth-wheel towing, backing and braking, according to the RV News Service. It’s billed as “A complete guide to professional driving techniques for beginners to experienced drivers.”
Author Walsh got hooked on RVing when he was 13 years old after his parents began taking him camping in a 13-foot travel trailer, the first of several family recreational vehicles. He started pulling trailers when he got his driver’s learning permit, well before he obtained a driver’s license. In recent years, Walsh has worked as a motorcoach driver and instructor for Gray Line Tours.
“The more training I did for Gray Line, the more I realized how much I had learned from nearly 50 years of driving and through my professional training,” said Walsh. “When most people were taught to drive, they were just taught the hows and not the whys. Teaching the whys, or the mechanics of driving gives you the tools and skills you can apply to any vehicle or any driving situation. The purpose of this book is to help instruct you on how to tow your fifth wheel like a professional.”
“This book should be welcomed by the RV community,” said Chuck Woodbury of RVbookstore.com, the largest seller of books and DVDs about RVing. “There’s been a big information void on this subject. I’m sure Lorrin’s advice will help many RVers drive safer and with more confidence.”
Walsh’s first book “Drive Your Motorhome Like a Pro” was published in 2006 and spawned a DVD of the same title.
“Tow Your Fifth Wheel Trailer Like a Pro” retails for $14.95 and is available at www.RVbookstore.com.
