They say it’s the most wonderful time of the year. For many, that means finding joy in helping those in need.
For several years, Forest River Inc. RV employees in Elkhart County, Ind., have donated money to Toys for Tots, according to WNDU-TV, South Bend, Ind.
They even go on a shopping spree to buy the toys.
Angie Garza says, “There’s people out there that can’t afford to get things they really want, so this Toys for Tots does and we get things that we know kids this day and age would want. When my kids were little, I enjoyed being able to go down their Christmas list and get some of the things they really wanted.”
David Jr. and Dominick Ambrose consider themselves lucky. Like Angie Garza does for her kids, their dad does for them. They want all kids to get at least one awesome present. So, their dad didn’t have to twist their arms to get them to help out.
David Ambrose says, “We missed doing it last year because times were tough for everybody, but this year we got it going again.”
So, what made Forest River decide to get involved in Toys for Tots?
Tracey Foust says, “It started because our plant manager had a crush on Tricia Sloma (one of the WNDU morning news anchors) and really was dying to meet her.”
Every year, WNDU has a Toys for Tots drive outside its studios and at several locations. The on-air talent collects toys donated by the community.
Foust says, “We think it’s really great. It gives back to our community and gives kids a toy on Christmas.”
Forest River employees checked out of Meijer with 41 carts full of toys. They spent the $15,000 donated.
