The National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds (ARVC) predicts a good “snowbird” season this year, and it has already started in Florida’s Pinellas County, WTVT-TV, Tampa, reported.

It typically runs from Nov. 1 through April, and the Canadian flag already flaps over the Travel World RV Park on U.S. 19.

The off-season there was spoiled by the BP oil disaster.

“In a 12-week period, we had three people come and stop … and that was it,” said manager Lou Baker. “Generally we have at least two or three a week.”

But like other parks, Travel World expects to be sold out from Christmas through Easter.

John Cornwell just rolled in from Michigan and expects others to follow.

“Last year, people were worried — what’s going to happen tomorrow?” he said. “People who are working can take a vacation this year, and feel more comfortable doing so, because they kept their job.”

“Up in Quebec, you know, the economy is very good,” retired policeman Gaetan Talbot said.

He added that the relative values of the American and Canadian dollars also helps. They are just about the same this year.

“This year, the money is very good, and lot’s of people come,” Talbot continued.
