Dehco Hosting Sixth Annual New Product Review (2/6/2019)

Elkhart, Ind.-based Dehco Inc. rolled out its sixth annual “New Product Review” open house for RV and manufactured housing builders Tuesday (Feb. 5). The event, which runs through Thursday at the Elkhart County 4-H Fairgrounds in Goshen, Ind., is designed to showcase the latest products the company’s vendors will be offering its customers in 2019.
Tom Nagy, president of Dehco, told RVBUSINESS.com during a busy first day that product diversification and innovation were the main elements that attracted Patrick Industries Inc. to acquire the company in April of 2018.
“We have a dedicated product development department within the company,” said Nagy. “We have four product development engineers that spend all their time looking for new, innovative products that we can introduce to sustain our margins and create new sales. We all know that products have a shelf life in this industry, and we have a lot of competitors, so we are investing in trying to develop new products constantly.”
The vendors debuting new productsin an indoor exhibition hall included: Renogy, Daewoo, Hewlett Rand, Magnadyne, IVC US, Armstrong, Karndean Design Flooring, Daltile, Kicker, JVC, TBB, Boss Audio Systems, Cub, Sharp, Hisense, RCA, Intellitronix, True Induction, The Empire Brass Co., Danze and Fogatti.
Everything including the kitchen sink (a collapsible multifunctional stainless nesting sink with cutting board) as well as flattop sink dishwashers, the latest innovations in mini washer and dryer combos, new flooring and wall patterns and radius shower doors, were on display at the event.
Nagy pointed to the new solar power systems Dehco will distribute for 2019, as the supplier continues to target the boondocking trend.
“One of the areas we are most excited about is our new solar products and our solar generator that we are introducing,” he said. “We also have a myriad of products that play off our solar package. The trend is that the battery system can replace a generator to make remote camping easier. With the right kind of battery system you just don’t need a generator. It’s a hot new product category for us with a lot of different moving parts.”
Nagy explained that in the solar power realm each of his suppliers has a core competency, so what Dehco provides is options. “Everybody’s solar package is a little bit different. What manufacturers are looking for is customization, so we are trying to offer a lot of options,” he said.
Nagy said that after the acquisition by Patrick Industries in 2018, business has been very good.
“This has been a real positive for us because it really extends our distribution,” he concluded. “If we get an opportunity with a product line and we don’t have the distribution for, not enough space, a relationship, or a geographical foothold, someone in the Patrick Industries world does.”
