SSI: Towable RV Registrations Grow 4.1% for 2018 (2/12/2019)

Towable retail registrations rose 4.1% for 2018 as all categories except folding camping trailers recorded single-digit gains.
According to the latest report from Statistical Surveys Inc. (SSI), results by category showed:
- Travel trailer sales were up 4.3% for the 12 months.
- Fifth-wheel registrations rose 5.2% through December.
- Folding camping trailer sales dropped 12.2% for the 12 months.
- Park model RV sales edged up 2.2% for the full year.
Thor Industries Inc. was the towable sales leader for the full year with a 48.2% share of the market, ahead of Forest River Inc. owning a 34.8% share and Grand Design RV Co. (5.9%).
By segment, Thor was No. 1 in travel trailers for the year with a 48.2% market share, followed by Forest River (36.4%). Thor led fifth-wheel sales with a 53.2% market share, followed by Forest River (26.4%) and Grand Design (13.8%).
In folding camping trailers, Forest River led the category for the year with a 72.1% market share while Columbia Northwest/Aliner Inc. garnered a 12.6% share and Thor owned a 9.3% share. Skyline Champion led the park model segment with a 30.5% market share, followed by Cavco Industries Inc. (18.4%) and Kropf Industries Inc. (17.1%).
